Ambassador of Nepal to Canada His Excellency Kali Prasad Pokhrel presented to His Excellency Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada the Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to Canada at Residence of the Governor General, Rideau Hall, amid a special ceremony in Ottawa today.
Presenting his Letters of Credence, His Excellency Ambassador Pokhrel conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from the Right Honourable Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, the President of Nepal and Right Honourable Mr. Sushil Koirala, Prime Minister of Nepal to His Excellency Right Honourable Governor General David Johnston for his personal health and happiness and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people Canada.
Receiving the Credentials, His Excellency Right Honourable the Governor General Governor General welcomed His Excellency the Ambassador in Canada and wished him a successful assignment.
After the Ceremony, His Excellency Right Honourable the Governor General had a separate meeting with His Excellency the Ambassador. During this meeting, His Excellency Right Honourable the Governor General expressed that Nepal and Canada enjoyed good relations during these years of diplomatic relations but many areas still lie ahead that both the countries can do more. His Excellency Right Honourable the Governor General also expressed his belief that being a career diplomat His Excellency the Ambassador was fully aware of responsibilities in building the relationship between Nepal and Canada particularly in areas of trade and people to people ties. His Excellency the Ambassador expressed happiness over the level of cordial and friendly relations between Nepal and Canada which are based on mutual understanding and cooperation ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965. Ambassador emphasized on the need of exchange of high level visits to further strengthen the bilateral relations. Ambassador Pokhrel added that as this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Embassy of Nepal has planned to organise various programmes and activities to celebrate the occasion. His Excellency Pokhrel also thanked the government of Canada for the cooperation and support extended to the government of Nepal for the socioeconomic development of Nepal during the past more than four decades. Responding to a brief query of His Excellency Right Honourable the Governor General if Ambassador had any priority job, Ambassador Pokhrel expressed his desire to work with the government and private sector of Canada in the field of Energy and infrastructure development, trade, tourism and other areas of bilateral interest.
Chief of Protocol of Canada, Mrs. Angela Bogdan, Ms. Christine MacIntyre, Executive Director, Events, Household and Visitor Services, Office of the Secretary to the Governor General greeted HE the Ambassador at the Residence of the Governor General.
His Excellency Ambassador Pokhrel was accompanied by his spouse, daughter, son and relatives and friends.
